When Meals More Than Satisfy Hunger
Travel with me back to Genesis 25:29-34, where we find ourselves in a kitchen. The aroma of a savory stew fills the air. Esau, weary and hungry, is tempted by the mouth-watering aroma that his younger brother, Jacob, is cooking. He convinces Esau to swear an oath to him, selling his birthright for a bowl of stew in his profound hunger. Esau makes a seemingly impulsive decision to trade his birthright – a significant inheritance and blessing – for a single bowl of stew. “What good is a birthright if I’m dead from hunger?” he might have thought. He ate and drank and then got up and left.
